Beach Reads

Keeper of the Light
Diane Chamberlain
In the Outer Banks of North Carolina a lighthouse is central to stories kept secret for years. Annie is a community minded, generous woman whom everyone in town admires and loves. Her sudden and tragic death causes huge waves in the lives of those around her. Her husband Alec must come to terms with his loss while keeping his family together. Local writer Paul is obsessed with Annie, and his wife Olivia has to deal with his fixation while coming to terms with her part in Annie’s death. The present and past are revealed slowly in alternating chapters, building tension and suspense as the layers are pulled back. At times a bit sad, outrageous, and unpredictable, this book incorporates moments of true love and passion. This unusual book kept me captivated until its unexpected end.
My Heart Sings to the Sea
Silke Stein
Silke Stein has created a volume of poetry that paints a beautiful picture through a story full of oceanic enchantment. Each wonderful poem casts a new perspective on a realm of coastal subjects such as mermaids, beachcombing, barnacles, sea glass, sea otters, and more. Silke’s style of writing and command of language create an atmosphere of pure wonder, and it’s clear that this poetry comes straight from her heart.
This collection is meant to be read slowly and savored, and you can come back to it again and again and still enjoy it. If you love the coast then this book is a must read.
